US News & World Report Ranks A&T as #1 Public HBCU in the Nation

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University ranked No. 1 in the nation among public historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2014 Best Colleges rankings.

“We are excited to have been named the top public HBCU in the nation by U.S. News & World Report,” said Chancellor Harold L. Martin Sr. “This is good news for us. We are also pleased to have been ranked No. 8 in the nation among HBCUs.”

Out of all 70 HBCUs ranked, N.C. A&T moved from No. 11 to No. 8 and held on to the state’s No. 1 place for the second consecutive year.

“This ranking is a clear indication that we are moving the university’s aggressive agenda centered around innovative research, exemplary teaching and learning and creative scholarship in the right direction,” said Martin.

In U.S. News’ Best Grad School edition N.C. A&T ranked No. 75 for industrial, manufacturing and systems engineering and No. 104 for social work. The university came in at No. 152 for best undergraduate engineering programs and No. 246 for high school counselor ratings also listed in the Best Colleges edition.

N.C. A&T also made the Best Online Programs edition and placed No. 106 for best online bachelor’s programs, No. 18 for best online graduate computer information technology programs and No. 85 for best online graduate education programs.

U.S. News & World Report used the U.S Department of Education’s list of colleges and universities to assign ranking positions. Annual rankings are scored by graduation and retention rates, evaluation of faculty and peers at the university, resources used by faulty, financial resources, alumni giving rates, and student selectivity.
